Notes for Ambrose Powell

Death Note
His will dated 10/30/1824 states: "I Ambrose Powell of this county domake and ordain this my last Will and Testament. It is my will andpleasure to bequeath to my beloved sons and daughters the balance ofmy estate after having made provision of my intended wife, Nancy

Cavender, hereafter Nancy Powell. Item 1, I give into my grandsonKillis (Achilles) Powell one negro boy. Item 2, all my land andNegroes and their increase that I now hold with my stock, kitchen andhousehold furniture to be equally divided between my sons anddaughters, that is to say, Elijah, Colby, Reuben, Fielding, Willis,Sally Crofford, Milly, formerly wife of Honor Powell. In that case itis my wish that Milly's children should inherit their mother'sproportion of my estate with her brothers. Last I consider my sonReuben Powell and James D. Offutt to be my Executors of this my lastWill and Testament. 10/20/1824, N.B. It is my request that if any ofmy children should bring any account against me or my estate after mydeath that they shall not inherit any part or parcel of my estate realand personal."

"I Ambrose Powell, Scott County, Kentucky, have covenant...agreed soin matrimony with Nancy Cavender of Fayette County, Kentucky, bothbeing of same state doth make over unto the said....3 negroes....tohave and to hold of her said proper use unto said Nancy and her heirsforever the said negroes, mare and bed. October 29, 1824."
