| Elizabeth was Eli's second wife. Descendants said the couple weremarried twice, once by bond on 10/5/1833 and later by an alcalde on5/28/1838. He gave a bond of $1000 signed by witnesses which he wasto forfeit if he was not married by an alcalde when he had theopportunity. No Protestant minister was allowed to officiate orpreach in Texas so religious services were held in secret and so, uponthe arrival of an alcalde, Elizabeth and Eli were married along withseveral other couples. |
