Please note. This site has been significantly reformatted. I will be putting up the Van Gundy Family Tree in several different web formats (this one created by GEDPage). You can then decide which format you prefer to use to search the tree. Please be patient as this takes some time to put together for Web Publishing and then uploading of thousands of web pages.

Notes for Elisha WHITLEY

Some descendants believe Elisha had a total of 12 children.

Residences & events:

1820 Bond Co, IL. At census time his household consisted of himself, under 21 years of age, and 2 females, his wife and new baby daughter..

6/15/1829 Morgan Co, IL, was his residence when he bought 80 acres,in the same county, for $1.25/acre at a Federal sale. The land waslocated at S36 T16N R12W.

1830 Morgan Co, IL, was still his residence at census time. Therewas also a Samuel Whitley in the same county.

1830 Coles Co, IL. He had moved by census time and was living downthe road from daughter, Bashie Hoots. In his family were 1 femaleunder 5, 2 females 15-20, 1 female 30-40 (his wife), 2 males 5-10 and2 males 10-15. Apparently either the census taker or the transcriberforgot to record Elisha's age, as he would have been too old to havebeen in either of the previous age groups.

3/5/1832 He bought another 80 acres, again at Federal sale for$1.25/acre, described as S2 T15N R12W, same county.

7/20/1836 Coles Co, IL. He had already moved to this county when hebought 80 acres there at S34 T14N R07E. The purchase price was still$1.25/acre at Federal sale.

4/18/1837 Elisha acquired another 40 acre plot at S3 T13N R07E for$1.25/acre from another Federal sale. He was still a resident of thecounty.

1840 Coles Co, IL. He was the only Whitley living in the county andhis household consisted of 1 male under 5, 2 males 15-20, and himselfat 30-40, 2 females 5-10 and 2 females 10-15. None of the femaleslisted were old enough to be his wife. Her whereabouts at that timeis unknown. Next door was the David Hoots Sr family and daughter,Bashie, recently married to David Hoots, Jr, lived a few more doorsdown the road
