Please note. This site has been significantly reformatted. I will be putting up the Van Gundy Family Tree in several different web formats (this one created by GEDPage). You can then decide which format you prefer to use to search the tree. Please be patient as this takes some time to put together for Web Publishing and then uploading of thousands of web pages.

Notes for Aaron Sr COLLINS

Residences & events:

1820 Surry Co, NC was where the census taker found him

1830 Surry Co, NC, still there at census time.

2/1/1831 Coles Co, IL, was his residence when he purchased 80 acresat S20 T14N R103, also in Coles Co. He paid $1.25/acre, a total of$100, at a Federal land sale.

9/1831 Morgan Twp/Greasy Creek, Coles Co, IL. He was one of thefirst settlers of the area. From 1842 to 1856-7 when the church wasbuilt, the Presbyterian sermons were preached at his house and that ofa neighbor.

1840 No township was listed but he was probably at the same residenceas the last census.

1850 Greasy Creek, Coles Co, IL. He and son, Aaron, were both livingthere.

1860 Willoa Branch Twp, Piatt Co, IL, was his residence at censustime but he apparently moved back to Coles Co where he died 3 yearslater.
Date discrepancy w/tombstone & all census listings. He's a different
age w/each one.
Aaron died without a will and son, George, petitioned the court to be
appointed administrator of his estate. The estate consisted only of
personal property, all money, credits & household furniture =
$1559.39. Settlement was not made until 6/19/1865 when 11 heirs
received $126.40 each. (Solomon was dead, his children received his
share.)
Cemetery records state he arrived in Illinois in 1830, not 1831.
