Residences & events:

1850 Clear Creek Twp, Clark Co, IL. At age 17 he was listed in thecensus as a laborer living with his parents.

1860 Sugar Creek Twp, Vigo Co, IN, where the name was spelled"Arther" and his family were the only Arthurs living in theneighborhood. Brother, John was living with them. There was aBradford and Catherine Arthur in Nevins Twp, Vigo Co.

Before 1863 Wabash Twp, Clark Co, IL. Having jumped across theriver, son, Joseph was born there that year.

10/4/1864 He enlisted as Pvt in the Union army from Indiana.

1870 Wabash Twp, Clark Co, IL. The census taker found him and hiswife with 4 children. He was a farmer with property = $400.

1890-1892 Macksville, Vigo Co, IN. When he moved back across theborder is unknown but he was shown to be there by the Terre Haute, INdirectories of those years. Living in the same household were sonsGeorge, Joseph, and William.

6/29/1896 W Terre Haute, Vigo Co, IN. He must have moved back acrossthe river some time before he stated in a general affidavit that hisbrother, John R, had lived with him in Sweet Water Twp, Vigo Co, IN,until John joined the Civil War in 1863, and that he knew nothingabout John's divorce from a wife prior to Mary Collins.
