Please note. This site has been significantly reformatted. I will be putting up the Van Gundy Family Tree in several different web formats (this one created by GEDPage). You can then decide which format you prefer to use to search the tree. Please be patient as this takes some time to put together for Web Publishing and then uploading of thousands of web pages.

Notes for Henry W Sr WISSLER

Residences & events in his life:

1757 Donegal Twp, Lancaster Co, PA. In the tax list, he owed 9s forhis property. He and his widowed mother, Anna, were the only Wisslersin that twp and one can only assume that he, being the youngest at 18,stayed behind with his mother until her death while the rest of thefamily moved on. Neighbors were the Seegrist family, relatives of hiswife.

1772 Earl Twp, Lancaster Co, PA. He was listed among the freemen ofthe county, he owed taxes of 15.0, his property was not listed.

1773 Breaknock Twp, Lancaster Co, PA. He was again among the countytaxpayers, this time he had 17 acres and 3 cattle for which the taxwas 3.0.

1783 Newbrittain Twp, Bucks Co, PA. Having moved sometime within thepast 10 years, he now owned 50 acres, 1 horse and 1 cattle but noservants at tax time. The amount of tax was not recorded.

8/1806 Pickaway Co, OH. "Henry came with his wife and 10 children. He had purchased over 1100 acres of land from John Shoemaker in the SWpart of the twp for $5.00/acre. He moved into a cabin which stoodjust across the road from where the residence of Samuel Wissler nowstands, and which was occupied by a squatter family by the name of
Sweigert. In a few months Mr. Wissler built a two story log house onthe location of the former shanty, and resided there until he deathabout the year 1830. His wife died in 1811. One child was born tothem after their settlement. To each of his eleven children he gave150 acres of land."

1830 Salt Creek Twp, Pickaway Co, OH. At census time he and sons,George, John, and Samuel, were all neighbors while Jacob and Michaellived just down the road.
There is a conflict between Henry's birthdate as posted and that ofhis children, he should be much older.
Henry's will, dated 4/2/1831, was probated 6/11/1832. Son, Michael, was named executor and Aaron Jones and John T. Martin were witnesses. The will mentions daughters, Catherine, wife of Isaac Worline, BarbaraWelty widow, Anna Van Gundy, Magdaline Biegler and Mary Wolf; sons,Michael, John, Henry, George, Samuel, and Jacob.

Two grandchildren were buried beside Henry and Anna, a third was a fewplots down. All were children of Jacob "Cob" and Sarah Whisler.
