Please note. This site has been significantly reformatted. I will be putting up the Van Gundy Family Tree in several different web formats (this one created by GEDPage). You can then decide which format you prefer to use to search the tree. Please be patient as this takes some time to put together for Web Publishing and then uploading of thousands of web pages.

Notes for James LISLE

Apparently he could not write as he signed various documents with amark.

He was a veteran of the war of 1812, serving as Private of 2nd Div,4th Brigade. Both he and Mary were said to be faithful members of theLutheran Church.

His birth date is 3/6/1788 in some family listings but fromcalculations on the gravestone, it was as posted.
According to a county history, he drowned while crossing a riverduring the winter. He died without a will and real estate passed bystatue of descent to children Robert, William, John G, Alexander andAbigail Moore subject to dower interest of Mary, his widow. Williambought out the interests of Robert and John so the family farm wasdivided thus:

1/3 to widow Mary for her dower
1/5 to Michael Moore and Abbie
3/5 to William
1/5 to Alexander for whom William was appointed guardian.

Later William ended up with the whole farm when he also bought out theMoores and Alexander.
He lived there nearly all his life.
