Notes for Harvey LISLE


The county history recorded: "George Hays located, at an early date,in secion twenty-four, and occupied, as a renter, the farm now ownedby Harvey Lisle."

Harvey lived his entire life on his father's homestead, keeping theland in the Lisle name for over 100 years.

Events in his life:

1850 Hamilton Twp, Franklin Co, OH. The census taker found him andPriscilla with a toddler in the house.

1860 By census time his family had grown to 5 children. His property= $1200 and he was a listed as a farmer.

1870 His property had grown to $19,000 and there were 7 children athome.

12/29/1872 He and Priscilla took all 8 children to the Zion LutheranChurch in Obetz to be baptized by Rev Emanuel Schmidt withgrandfather, George Moore, as sponsor.

1880 The census found 6 children living at home, including George at30, Eli at 27 and Robert at 24.

The 1880 Agricultural Census showcased Harvey's wealthy compared tomost men of the day:

131 acres tilled
3 acres permanent meadow or pasture or orchard
62 acres woodland
Value of farm = $12, 550
Farm implements and mahinery = $300
Livestock = $860
Amount paid for wages for farm help in 1879 = $350 for 25 weeks ofhired labor
Estimated value of farm productions = $1330

It continued by listing everything including animals, died and born,amount of butter made, eggs produced, acreage per crop, includingpotatoes.

A granddaughter remembered him as a kind and gentle man.
Cause of death was organic heart disease. During his last days helived with son Samuel who was the informant for the death certificateand said his grandparents were Peter Lisle and Isabel McIntyre.

All Harvey's children and inlaws declined administration of his estateand asked the court to appoint Frank S Miller to the job, which heaccepted.
