Notes for John Sr WHITLEY


John is the first one by the name to be mentioned in Isle of Wight,VA, records. It is unknown how and when he arrived in America.

Residences & events:

Isle of Wight, VA, where he settled on a plantation.

2/9/1669 His father-in-law appointed him executor of his estate butapparently by the time he died, either John's own health had failed orhe had died because son, John Jr, served instead.
He made a deposition in court on 8/9/1664 stating he was 36 years old.
His will was dated 2/2/1670 and probated 2/9/1671.

In it he bequeathed "to son John one half of land I live on, the otherhalf at decease of my wife Ann; to son Thomas 200 acres of land Ipurchased from Anthony Fulgham; to son William 200 acres of landadjoining Wm. Bressie; to daughter Elizabeth one bed; to son in lawJohn Williams one shilling; to my grandchild Ann Williams, daughter ofJohn Williams....; rest of my estate of wife Ann." Ann was appointedexecutrix.
