Please note. This site has been significantly reformatted. I will be putting up the Van Gundy Family Tree in several different web formats (this one created by GEDPage). You can then decide which format you prefer to use to search the tree. Please be patient as this takes some time to put together for Web Publishing and then uploading of thousands of web pages.

Notes for Richard MCMAHAN

Residences & events:

VA

9-16-1783 Jefferson Co, KY. Richard received a 1000 acre land grantfor his participation in the Revolutionary War.

1790 Nelson Co, KY. The date of his arrival there is unknown but heshowed up for the first time on the county Tithables List "within theBounds of Capt McDonals & Capt McFauls Companies." His tax bill was 3tithes. Living nearby were James "McMachen" and the Berryfamilies....William, Enoch, and George.

1791 He was not listed on the county's tithable list that year. Hiswhereabouts are unknown or maybe the tax commissioner just missedhim.

1793 Probably the same residence. His tax was based on 250 acres, 5horses and 17 cattle. There were 2 males over 21 at his house. Nearbywas son John and another John next door who was more likely James.

1794 His estate had decreased some, paying taxes on 200 acres, 3horses and 16 cattle. Apparently some of the children had moved inwith him because there were then 2 males ages 16-21 there.
He was listed on the 1794 Tax Records.
