James POWELL [Parents] was born before 1742. He died in 1776 in St Thomas Parish, Orange Co, VA. He married Mary (Powell).

4/20/1763 Culpeper Co, VA. James gave land to his brother Benjamin.

6/4/1765 Orange Co, VA. "James Powell of Orange County gave to Ann
Powell of Culpeper (his mother), a negro woman to secure payment of 14
pounds current money to John Powell or to the three brothers, Honorias
Powell, Ambrose Powell, and John Powell who are sons of Ann."

5/30/1770, recorded 7/19/1770 "James Powell of Orange County,
Virginia to Honorias Powell of Culpeper County, Virginia for 100
pounds current Virginia money, 200 acres adjoining Thomas Schoolar,
South side of Elk Run to Rappidan River, North side of said River;
only our mother Ann Powell is to hold said lands and premises her
whole life time, where the said Ann Powell lives. Signed: James
Powell, Mary Powell. Testees: Francis Powell, Ambrose Powell,
William West and Joyce Riddle."

In 1764 James was chosen by two younger brothers as their guardian so
he had to be over 21 years old.

James will was dated 7/15/1776 and probated 11/25/1776. It stated:

"My land and plantation where I now live on, and three Negroes Joe, Jeney and Hannor after my mother's deceas and my whole personal estate I lend to my loving wife Mary Powell during her natural life or the time she remains a widow. Afterward the land and plantation to my son James Powell.
The peac of land that goes by the name of Mathew Jones's to the dividing line to my son Luesgording Powell.
The plantation and all the land in the fork of the two runs above Stephen Shiflet's to my son Colbe Powell.
800 acres as I had of John Mack Doner at the Tigers Valies upon Glady Creack to my four daughters equil divided between them four Mary Ann Powell, Betty Powell, and Mesineah Powell and Winey Powell.
Ruthe Breaden I have given that peace of land where she now lives on.
That land where my mother Ann Powell lives on after my mother's decease to be set up and sold to the highest bidder. The money that comes for it be for paying my debts and for clearing and to pay off all rights and to have that patten land above mentioned in my four daughters names Mary Ann Powell, Betty Powell, Mesaniah powell, Wine Powell in theys names four.
After my wife's deceas or widowhood my hole estate to be sold at the highest bider and the money equile divided between all my children.
My wife Mary Powell and my son James Powell and my frind Andrew Shipperd and my friend John Goodall Sener executors.

A codicil was added:

"If the land ant never made right to my four daughters that I have bought of John Macdonor at the Tyger Valeys upon Glady Creek, the land were my mother lives on in Culpepet County after my mother Ann Powell deces after paying my just debts the balance to be equil divided between my four daughters Mary Ann Powell and Betty Powell and Mesaniah powell and Wine Powell.

11/25/1776 Proved by John Kendall and John Furnes. Executors therein named refused to act. Administration is granted Zachary Burnley, Gent, he giving bond in the sum of 600 pounds.

David B VAN GUNDY [Parents] was born on 6 Apr 1804 in PA. He died on 14 Nov 1880 in Ross Co, OH, near Chillicothe. He was buried in Concord Cem, Chillicothe, OH. He married Margaret (Van Gundy) about 1826.

1840 Harrison Twp, Ross Co, OH, was his residence at census time. In the same township were cousins, Aaron and Gabriel Van Gundy.

Some records list his death date as 1885 but the date posted was given by grandson, JD.

Margaret (Van Gundy) was born in 1802. She died on 5 Jul 1833. She was buried in Concord Cem, Chillicothe, OH. She married David B VAN GUNDY about 1826.

David Fred Arthur [Parents] was born on 4 Feb 1937. He died on 13 Jan 1999 in Mattoon, Coles Co, IL, at home. He was buried on 18 Jan 1999 in Dodge Grove Cem, Mattoon, Coles Co, IL. He married Adora "Lodell" Wisely on 8 May 1955 in Charleston, Coles Co, IL, by Rev Charles Breen. David resided.

He was a carpenter with the Price Cosntruction Co in Mattoon, IL, and also worked for the Kull Lumber Co.

He was a member of the Salvation Army and an avid fisherman.

The funeral was held at 1:30 on Monday at the Schilling Funeral Home with Major Roger Windell and Envoy Don Kincade of the Salvation Army officiating, assisted by Captain D Wakefield. Brother, Ralph, sang "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and in addition to the organist's numbers a duet of guitarists played and sang "Love Without End, Amen."

Pallbearers were David J Arthur, lewis Edwards, William Ramsey, Tom Parker, John Pearson, and Nathan Arthur.

Adora "Lodell" Wisely died after Jan 1999. She married David Fred Arthur on 8 May 1955 in Charleston, Coles Co, IL, by Rev Charles Breen.

She survived husband, David.
