Palmyra, Macoupin Co, IL. He farmed there as well as carpenter work.

Abt 1882 Granite Falls, Yellow Medicine Co, MN, where he died.

Sarah Crouch was born in 1848 in TN. She died on 27 Feb 1929 in Kalamazoo, MI. She married John PURVIS in Moultrie/Moline Co, IL.

In 1922 she was living in Wichita, KS.

Shelby Co, IL. He served on the first petit jury along with John Purvis.

1860 Sullivan Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. In the census, John was counted among the county's more fortunate men with property = $12,800/4600. His sister, Jane, was living with the family, next door was Margaret McFarland, who was probably their daughter.

1869 N Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL. He owned a farm of 255.22 acres there according to the county plat map. By the time the next map was published in 1893 it was in the possession of son, Robert.

Jane (Ginn) was born in 1808 in Ireland. She died in 1869 in Moultrie/Coles Co, IL. She was buried in Greenhill Cem, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. She married John GINN about 1828.

Hers and John's birth dates are 2 years off when comparing gravestones
to census records.

1880 E Nelson Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. Recorded as a farmer in the census, Robert was head of the house with sisters, Mary and Lizzie, and cousin, Eliza Johnson, 50, living with him as well as a Charles Higgby, 30, farm laborer. He had no wife at that time.

1893 N Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL. He apparently inherited his father's 255 acre farm. The county plat map recorded him as the current owner.

1913 Same place. The next plat map showed he still owned the same piece of ground.

He birthdate as posted is engraved on his headstone. However, the 1880 census listed him as 43 yrs old, making his birthdate 1837.

Mary was deaf and dumb according to the 1860 census.

There was a Mary Ginn who died of "conjestion" in 1860 according to
census/mortality schedules. It probably was another person or this
Mary's gravestone is incorrect.

The birth year is calculated from the death date.

His gravestone says: "Sacred to the memory of Goerge Purvis Who departed this life February the 9th in the 50th year of his age."

George, his wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Elizabeth, are all buried in a corner of a graveyard overgrown with briars and surrounded by a forest located about 12 miles south of Fredericksburg and about 1/4 mile east of the RF&P railroad. Most of the others buried there are Bullocks. The old house spot nearby was known as Parmount.
