1812 Lovejoy's heirs vs. McClung (McIlhany)--O. S. 268; N. S. 94--Bill, by Nancy, Samuel and John Lovejoy, infants, children and heirs of Josiah Lovejoy, deceased, by Wm. McClintock, their guardian. In 1808, Josiah purchased from George Hull and Josiah Thomas 45 to 50 acres on Jackson's River in Bath County, part of 270 acres sold by Robert Armstrong to William and James Cochran, who sold to John Coonrood, who sold to Josiah Thomas, who associated Hull, and then they sold to Lovejoy. Coonrood sold remainder of tract to Charles Rodgers, who sold to Levi Skidmore and then Armstrong and wife conveyed the whole 270 acres to Skidmore. Josiah Lovejoy was drowned June, 1812. James McElheney has obtained decree vs. Rodgers, Skidmore et als., for sale of the 270 acres.

1750 Berne, Switzerland. Following the death of his wife, he took his young family and set out for the new world.

1763 Pendleton Co, WVA, was his choice for final settlement. The county history states: "It is said than when Jacob Sr. came to the South Branch, he found on his land a 'squaw patch' of about one acre, which formed the nucleus of his cleared land, and that there was also a cabin that he temporarily made use of."

Local history recorded 2 Coonrods who settled in the county. It lists:

Conrad (A) - German - 1753 - South Fork Mountain, southwest of Fort Seybert (Woolrick?)
Conrad (B) - German - 1763 - South Branch bottom, 1 1-2 miles below Ruddle (Riddle?) (Jacob)

Augusta Co, VA, court records mentioned him often:

5/24/1763 "James Green and Moses Green, of Culpeper, and Mary Wood, of Frederick, to Jacob Conrod, £90, 457 acres on South Branch Potomac, part of 660 acres patented to Robert Green, who devised the same to grantors, 203 acres being sold to Joseph Skidmore and Gabriel Coyle. Teste: Mathew Patton, Postel ( ) Hover and Henry ( ) Pickles. Delivered: Jacob Conrad, January, 1765."

8/2/1773 "Estate of Jacob Caplenger, of South Branch, appraised by Jacob Conrad, Jacob Friend, Wolrie Conrad."

Augusta Co, VA, court records:

"Jacob Conrad's will--To son, Jacob, testator's dwelling place; to daughter, Barbara, the place she lives on (wife of Charles Hedrick); to daughter, Elizabeth, the place she lives on, bought of Christopher Thompson and James Skidmore, wife of George Fisher: to daughter Mary Conrad's two children, Margaret Barlet, John Clifton, land bought from Saml. Caplinger; to Jonas Friend, a debt to be paid; son to sign his three sisters their deeds by his Earship. Teste: Wolerey Conrad, John Skidmore, George Kile. Proved, 19th March, 1776 (translation
by George Carpenter) by the witnesses. Jacob Conrad qualifiesadministrator."
