John's will indicated he had 3 different families by 3 different wifes. Children are posted as listed in the will but dates and duplicate names cause problems that need to be sorted out. Also, if Bette remarried after John's death, how could wife Polly survive him as the will says? Could the will actually belong to another John?

A descendant said John was a shoemaker with 8 children by Elizabeth but the list doesn't agree with the ones here.

Residences & events:

Rowan Co, NC. The family settled there during the Rev War period, having migrated from Ireland.

1839 Scott Co, IL. John was assessed for 29 1/2 acres and was listed as being over 50 yrs old.

There were no Daily families left in Scott Co by 1850. There were McGuires though.

1839 tax records said he was over 50 and tax records support that. However some descendants have his birth year as late as 1817.

Some descendants say he died before the birth of his last child in 1837 in Washington Co, IN but his will was dated 6/20/1839, witnessed by Joseph Bowen & Ruth Daly, was probated 6/5/1840 in Scott Co.

Heirs included only the 3rd wife and her children so perhaps the other children had already received their inheritance. The will specified the children of each wife but some might have been step-children.

In his family were 1 female under 5, 2 females 15-20, 1 female 30-40 (his wife), 2 males 5-10 and 2 males 10-15. Apparently either the census taker or the transcriber forgot to record Elisha's age, as he would have been too old to have been in either of the previous age groups.

3/5/1832 He bought another 80 acres, again at Federal sale for $1.25/acre, described as S2 T15N R12W, same county.

7/20/1836 Coles Co, IL. He had already moved to this county when he bought 80 acres there at S34 T14N R07E. The purchase price was still $1.25/acre at Federal sale.

None of the females listed were old enough to be his wife. Her whereabouts at that time is unknown. 1860 Vienna Twp, Scott Co, IN, was still his residence at the next census.
