Sarah and Mr Stribling had at least 4 children.


Henry Berry was born in 1628 in England. He died in 1677 in Old Rappahannock Co, VA. He married Ann Saunders in 1649 in England.

Henry was our immigrant ancestor and the first of our line found in Virginia.

1650 Old Rappahannock Co, VA. Some descendants say he was brought to America by John Lawson, a large landowner. That same year his name first appeared in court records there. He remained prominent in that area until his death.

"The house of Henry Berry of Occupacia Creek" is mentioned in the records and he owned land on both sides of the Rappahannock River.

1676 Both Henry and son Henry were executors of the estate of a John Butler of Westmoreland Co, VA.

His will was dated 3/30/1672 and named only sons William, Henry, John, and also Richard who was underage, but no George or Peter.

Ann Saunders was born in 1628 in Lancaster Co, VA. She died in Old Rappahannock Co, VA, probably. She married Henry Berry in 1649 in England.

  M ii Peter Berry was born in 1652 in Old Rappahannock Co, VA. He died before 1677.

His father never mentioned him in his will.

He was not named in his father's will.
  M iv Henry Jr Berry was born in 1660. He died in 1697.
  M v John Berry was born in 1664 in Old Rappahannock Co, VA. He died in 1720.
  M vi Richard Berry was born in 1666 in Old Rappahannock Co, VA.

He was not of age when his father died.

William Berry [Parents] was born on 22 May 1650 in St Paul's Parish, King George Co, VA. He died on 5 Feb 1721 in Hanover Parish, King George Co, VA. He married Margaret Doughty on 5 May 1686 in Stafford, King George Co, VA.

William became a large land owner through inheriting extensive property from both his father and his father-in-law, Enoch Doughty.

Only 4 of his and Margaret's children reached adulthood.

William's will, dated 2/5/1720, said he lived in Hanover Parish in Richmond Co but it was recorded in King George Co. It stated:

"In the name of God Amen I, William Berry, of Richmond County in the Parish of Hanover being indisposed in body but of perfect memory blessed be Almighty God for the same, and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life, do make ordain and constitute this to be my last will and testament, revoking and disannulling all former wills and this to be my true last Will in manner and form following:

First and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God, hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ my saviour to have a Joyful resurrection and full pardon and remission of all my sins, and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as for what worldly good it hath pleased God to bestow upon and bless me with, I shall dispose and leave them as followeth.

Item: I give and bequeath to my two sons Joseph and Enoch Berry all the land I now stand possessed with in Essex County being nine hundred and fifty acres more or less to be equally divided between them allowing my eldest son Joseph to have the first choice and if my son Joseph shall see cause before his brother come to age to dispose or make sale of the whole or any part of the said land either in his own or his brother's behalf, that then he shall do as he sees fit and convenient, and if my son Enoch or Joseph shall die without heir then shall the said land return to the other brother, and if they shall both die without heirs, then it shall fall to my two daughters, Margaret and Elizabeth.

Item: I give to my two sons Joseph and Enoch Berry my Mill with that parcel of land adjacent to the Millswamp, binding upon Andrew Harrison and James Key, to each an equal part to be at the dispose of my eldest son Joseph to see or make use of until his brother comes to age.

Item: I give and bequeath to my son Enoch Berry the plantation I now live on with all the land joining it hereto now in my possession being the third part of a certain patent granted to Enoch Doughty by computation five hundred acres to him and his heirs lawfully begotten of his body and for want of such heirs to fall to my son Joseph Berry and to his heirs lawfully begotten of his body.

Item: I give to my daughters Margarett Rogers and Elizabeth Strother a certain tract of land known and distinguished by the name of the forest land binding upon Henry Berry, Mr. Fitzhugh & William Pannell, divided between them by a path and marked trees, my daughter Margaret to have her part where she now liveth to her and her heirs lawfully begotten of her own body and the other part to my daughter Elizabeth to her and her heirs lawfully begotten of her own body.

Item: I give to my son Enoch Berry two beds and furniture, two cows and calves and one thousand pounds of Tobacco to be paid to him when he shall come to age.

Item: I give to my daughter Margaret Rogers one bed and furniture, one cow and calf and seal skin trunk.

Item: I give to my daughter Elizabeth Strother one bed and furniture, a chest of drawers and a cow and calf.

Item: I give to my son Joseph berry one bed and furniture, and all my carpenters and coopers tools and broad-cloth linen and trimming for a suit of clothes, viz: coat, vest and Breaches.

Item: And it is my desire that all my other moveable estate be equally divided between my four children.

Item: And Lastly I do constitute ordain and appoint my son Joseph Berry to be whole and sole executor of this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this fifth day of February, 1720.

6/2/1721 King George County Court: "The last Will and Testament of William Berry, dec'd, was presented into court by Joseph Berry his Executor who made oath thereto and being proved by the oaths of William Munford and Thomas Apperson, witnesses thereto, is admitted to records.

Margaret Doughty [Parents] was born in 1670 in King George Co, VA. She died on 5 Feb 1720 in Hanover Parish, King George Co, VA. She married William Berry on 5 May 1686 in Stafford, King George Co, VA.

There must have been an epidemic which took Margaret's life and that of several of her children in 1720 or perhaps some of the dates are wrong. Whatever happened, William's will mentioned only 4 sons and 2 daughters.

George Berry [Parents] was born in 1754 in Fauquier Co, VA. He died on 1 Aug 1838 in Daviess Co, IN. He married Sarah Conway in 1777 in Fauquier Co, VA.

1776 VA He was commissioned lieutenant in Capt Robert Beall's company. He later served in Capt Moore's company as well as Col William Russell and John Gibson's 95h VA Reg.

1779-80 He was a quartermaster.

Elijah Berry [Parents] was born about 1756 in King George Co, VA. He married Susannah Feagen in May 1777 in Fauquier Co, VA.

William W Berry [Parents] was born about 1758 in King George Co, VA. He died in 1821 in Mason Co, KY. He married Dulcebella Conway.

William Berry [Parents] was born about 1750 in Prince William Co, VA. He died in Dec 1819 in Rockport, Spencer Co, IN. He married Clarissa Clara Feagen on 9 May 1777 in Fauquier Co, VA.

He is believed to the be father of the Texas Berrys.

He served as surety for at least 2 of his childrens' marriages.

1787 Nelson Co, KY, where William and brothers, John and Enoch, were listed in tax records. Being the older brother apparently led to more assets to be taxed with him owing on 2 tithables.

11/10/1789 William was Surety for the marriage between John Allen and Elizabeth Boswell.

1792 At tax time he was the only male in the family over 21 and had 150 acres, 4 horses and 18 cattle. Brothers, Enoch and George lived in the same district.

1793 He paid taxes on the same acreage and livestock. He was also the only male still over 21 in the house.

Clarissa Clara Feagen was born about 1754 in Fauquier Co, VA. She died in 1819 in Spencer Co, IN. She was buried in Spencer Co, IN, on the family farm. She married William Berry on 9 May 1777 in Fauquier Co, VA.

Joel Berry [Parents] was born in 1754 in Nelson Co, KY. He died on 28 Feb 1843 in Noble/Rush Co, IN. He married Ann Holsworth in 1776 in Nelson Co, KY.

Ann Holsworth died on 1 Nov 1827 in Pendleton Co, KY. She married Joel Berry in 1776 in Nelson Co, KY.
