"Will Leave Camp Dix, N.J., For A Fourteen-Weeks Course At Camp Lee In
Virginia

Dear Home Folks: This is Sunday evening and I thought I would
write you a few lines to let you know that I am well. I have been
sitting out in front of the 'Y' on New Jersey Ave, watching the
automobiles and visitors as they go by. It is very interesting to
observe the different types of people as they pass. We have a great
crowd of visitors every Sunday but I don't see many from Illinois.
I am very busy just now getting ready to attend the Officers'
Training school at Camp Lee, Virginia, Aug. 13th. I told you about it
in my last letter. I am anxious to go for I will get a real taste of
army life. The work will be pretty heavy but I think it will be worth
working for. The course covers about fourteen weeks and as I
understand it, after you have finished, you are entitled to a
fifteen-day furlough, so I suppose I will be home later. Orville
ought to get a fulough by that time and then we could be home
together. I think we could lead the boys a merry chase by that time,
that is, if there are any left to chase. Well, anyway if we do not
get to come home, we are working hard and getting ready for the old
bachelors and married men when they appear on the scene. So why
should we worry?
Well, I haven't much news to tell you so will have to close as it
is nearing mess time and that is one part of the program that I have
never yet failed to attend. I will write you again as soon as I
arrive at Camp Lee.
Tell everybody 'Hello' for me and that I wish them all the best
of luck.
With love to all,
Hubert"
