As the minister, he was featured in an article in 1950 about the University Avenue Baptist Church in Laramie, WY, one of the first churches he served:

"Rev. Glenn Powell, pastor of the church for the past three and one half years, is practically a native of this community. He came to Laramie from Ft. Colins at the age of seven and grew to manhood on ranches in this area, attending local schools. Reverend Powell stated that his call to the ministry came when he was 21 years of age. Preparing for the ministry was a slow, disconnected process. However, in the course of time, he earned a degree in theology from the American Bible college at Chicago. In the meantime he served as a machinist for the Union Pacific railroad, working in Omaha, Cheyene,
Rawlins and Laramie. Reverend Powell was employed by the Alaska railroad at Curry, Alaska, when he resigned to enter the Gospel work in full-time service. He was ordained a Baptist minister at the Greeley Baptist temple in November, 1947. Reverend Powell remarked that before his conversion he had played for a dance and had also engaged in wrestling matches in the WOW building. He said, 'At that time little did I think that I would be preaching the Gospel in this same building.'
When Reverend Powell accepted the call to the church it was burdened with indebtedness, and had an active attendance of approximately 25 or 30. There are now 198 members registered on the Sunday school roll and a record attendance of 210 was attained last October.
Reverend Powell is a busy pastor officiating in five to six regular services each week at the local church besides speaking at Bible conferences in southern Wyoming or neighboring states nearly every month. In addition he endeavors to spend several hours weekly in personal evangelism. He recently held a revival meeting in Rock River and is the founder of the new Calvary Baptist church there. He prints a monthly Christian publication, 'The Baptist Trumpet,' which has a rapidly increasing circulation. Reverend Powell is a board member of the newly organized Fletcher Park Baptist Youth foundation
(Camp Grace) in the Laramie Peak area."

1952 He accompanied his father back to Sullivan, IL, for the Powell family reunion.

The Everett, WA, newspaper, in 1986, carried a photo of him jogging with the following: "Glenn Powell, 80, got a birthday party compliments of the Everett Mall and Everett General Hospital on October 30. Powell has run the mall as part of his daily routine since 1980. He participated in the Mall's HeartWalk program since it began on February 13, 1982....Powell had his birthday party at 7 a.m. along with General Hospital's cardiac rehabilitation class. He plans to just keep on running."

Another newspaper reported on the same event with a photo of him cutting his cake:

"Everett senior runs for his 80th birthday

When Glenn Powell celebrated his 80th birthday on October 30 he kicked up his heels for about a mile and a half. Approximately 45 friends and co-runners, including Everett Mall and Everett General Hospital employees, joined Powell in a 'Happy Birthday' exercise session and run inside the mall at 7 a.m. that day---the exact hour of his birth.
Powell has been running four miles a day, three days a week, inside the mall since 1980. The south Everett resident and retired Boeing machinist also competes in 10K (10,000 meter) races and can finish the course in approximately 60 minutes. This year, he captured first place within the 70-year group in a 5,000 meter run at Seattle's Senior Olympics.
'Glenn is a wonderful person--an inspiration,' said Maria Lamarca Anderson, Everett Mall assistant marketing director. 'We wanted to honor him personally and we wanted to salute senior citizen commitment to fitness.'
'Glenn was one of the first people to take advantage of our offer (in the HeartWalk Program),' said Lamarca Anderson. 'Since the shops are closed at that hour he says he does high-speed window shopping.' Powell, who started a running routine in 1970, has logged more than 3, 900 miles over the mall tiles.
Besides the cake and the exercise, Nike (the sports shoe manufacturer) gave Powell a new pair of running shoes and the staff at Everett General hospital presented party participants with T-shirts marking the event."

Accompanying the article was a photo of him sitting on the floor with his small grandson, both preparing to jog by doing stretching exercises.

He lived in Washingto for 30 years, 25 of which were at Everett.
