John's gravestone says he died in 1836 but he had land dealings as late as 1838. Some family members think John was reinterred from the Patterson Cem and a new stone was erected after the old stone deteriorated beyond deciferability.

John's son, William, is buried on the same stone and was missed by the readers of the cemetery when they listed each burial. Son, John, is buried in the next plot with several of the Harbaugh family buried further down the same row.

Margaret "Peggy" Huff\Hoff.Margaret married John, Sen POWELL on 30 Jan 1816 in Wayne Co, IN, by Thomas J Warman, JP.

They had the following children:

apparently never married.

Brother, John, served as administrator of his estate. His estate was
divided among his brothers, with the exception of his father's 3rd
family, but none of the sisters were mentioned in probate records.

He is buried on the same stone as his father.

Rachel (PATTERSON) BATHE died in Moultrie Co, IL, in 67th yr of life. She was buried in Lynn Creek Cem, Moultrie Co, IL. She married John, Sen POWELL on 3 May 1829 in Edgar Co, IL, by J Lycan, JP.

Other marriages:
Bathe, Male

9/4/1839 Rachel brought suit against step-son-in-law, Sanford Green for $99.00, details were not given but she won the case and was awarded $93.00 plus court costs of $3.6 1/4 for papers, cost of swearing 4 witnesses, constables for a total of $96.6 1/4.

Also in 1839 she was listed as Rachel Patterson, plaintiff, in a court suit against the heirs of husband, John Powell, probably when she petitioned to sell his land to settle the estate.

Her gravestone only states she died in her 67th year. A family note
said "Uncle Nelson was 17 when his mother died," can only apply to
this lady, all other Nelsons in the family and area were much older
when their mothers died. By doing some arithmetic, her approximate
birth and death dates have been determined.

Buried beside her are Rachel and J.N. Martin, her daughter and
son-in-law.

They had the following children:

M i James POWELL was born in 1830.
F ii Rachel POWELL was born on 2 Apr 1832. She died on 5 Jul 1909.

The early reunion notes did not mention George as a son of John but, because of the disinterested share of John's estate, is included here.

Residences & events:

1853 Moultrie Co, IL. In the settlement of the estate of William Powell, son of John and Margaret Huff Powell, was this receipt:

"June the 4th 1853 Recievd of John Powell Administrator of the estate of Wm Powell deseast mi disinterrested shar in full of the Estate of Said Deseast.
George Powell"

2/27/1865 Moultrie Co, IL. Estray notice (he claimed a stray animal, probably a horse).

6/1865 George petitioned for a road change (Sullivan-Mattoon).
M iv Ambrose POWELL was born in 1835.
M v Nelson POWELL was born in Nov 1835. He died on 3 Dec 1921.

James BATHE [Parents] was born in 1800 in KY. He died in 1853 in Jonathan Creek Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. He was buried in Greenhill Cem, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. He married Malinda POWELL on 22 Nov 1832 in Vermilion Co, IL.

There is a strong probability that James was Malinda's step-brother.
Malinda's father married Rachel Bathe.

11/30/1840 E Nelson Twp, Moultrie Co, IL
