Among his wares were eggs, cheese, liquor, "oleomargarine" and butter, distilled water, meat, fruits and vegetables, poultry, and "anything else you can think of which needs to be kept cold." He handled 5000 - 10,000 tons of ice a year.
Son, Bud, took over the operation before selling it some 68 years later.
He and his wife were generous people and relatives remember them bringing truckloads of clothing to Mattoon every year for their less fortunate relatives.
