Daughter, Cora, told the 1900 census taker that her mother was born in IL. Her age depends on what census is being read. The 1860 census taker recorded her age at 14, making her birth year 1846.

1860 Grandview Twp, Edgar Co, IL. The census taker recorded his age at 53 (was actually 56), his property at $800/1100 and said he was a farmer. There were 4 children still at home plus a Benjamin Hood, 14, living with them. Two doors down was son, Benjamin.
5/30/1868 Douglas Co, IL. No current residence was given when he bought 40 acres of railroad property at S2 R09E T14N for $10.00/acre.
1870 Bowdre Twp, Douglas Co, IL, at census time he had property = $4800/0 and was a "minister of the gospel." At home with him and Anna, were son Charles, 18, as farm laborer, daughter, Jemima Done, 24, probably widowed, and her son, John W Done, at 6.
12/31/1870 Douglas Co, IL. He bought more railroad land at the same location as in 1868, again for $10/acre. He bought 2 plots containing 38.61 acres each.
Chesterville, Douglas Co, IL, where he died, possibly while living with daughter, Jennie Davis.
Cemetery records say he died 12/23/1876.
His wife relinquished her right of administration of his estate to son, Charles. FM Rush and George H Mason supplied the security bond and Caleb Bales, WN Shaw and Robert H Shaw were appointed appraisers. The final settlement was done 1/1879.

When her husband died she relinquished her right to serve as administer of his estate to son, Charles.

Census records and cemetery records do not agree on her birth year. The census has the date as posted, the cemetery has 1870.

Several of Joshua's descendants said he was married twice and quote Sarah Barnhill as the other wife with Edgar Co, IL, as their residence but no records can be found to verify that. In fact, there are records indicating there were two Joshua Davis families, one of which did live in Edgar Co, the other is our line. Problems encountered with them being one and the same are:
1. Joshua would have married Sarah first and is listed in every following census with her as late as 1880, some 15 years after the marriage with Jennie.
2. There are age conflicts between the men and their families.
3. There are conflicts from census to census, both Joshuas and their families being listed in 1880 in their respective counties.
4. Joshua of Edgar Co is buried with Sarah and their daughter.Residences & events in Joshua's life:

1878 Chesterville, Douglas Co, IL, where son, Joseph drowned.
1880 Arcola Twp, Douglas Co, IL, was his address at census time and he was a carpenter. Neither of the children, Albert, 3, nor Ida, 1, was listed with the family. Next door was an Andrew Harris with wife, Lovina, born in OH, and Albert, 2. Could this be him?
1896 Chesterville, IL. Daughter, Ida, at 17, gave this address as her residence for her marriage records. J Davis gave consent for the marriage, could be either Joshua or Jenny.
Mary E Hawkins was born in 1836 in IL. She died in 1871/1872. She married Joshua P Davis on 24 Jun 1867 in Clark Co, IL.
