Robert Irwin LISLE [Parents] was born on 18 Sep 1785 in PA. He died on 31 Mar 1862 in Hamilton Twp, Franklin Co, OH. He was buried in Walnut Hill Cem, Hamilton Twp, Franklin Co, OH. He married Abigail McIntyre on 27 Apr 1810 in Fairfield Co, OH, by Rev John Wright of UN Gospel.

He served as executor for four estates, two of which were his own parents.

Residences & events:

Abt 1814 Clinton Twp, Franklin Co, OH. His stay there was only four years according to the county history.

1817 Hamilton Twp, Franklin Co, OH. He bought the farm that eventually passed to son, Harvey.

1825 Guernsey Co, OH. Robert was listed on the tax roll as a non-resident.

1830 Hamilton Twp, Franklin Co, OH. The census taker recorded Robert as a farmer at age 40-50, wife also 40-50, and 8 children.

1835 - 1838 He served as a county commissioner.

1840 Apparently Abigail was not at home when the census taker came as only Robert and 6 children were recorded there at the time.

1850 By then, all their own children were gone but one of Abigail's relatives, Wm H McIntyre, 12, was living with them.

1860 The census taker found Robert and Abigail with property = $30, 000/2000. Wm McIntyre at 22 was still there and an Elizabeth Spangler, 21 year old servant, was also there.

Robert will was dated 3/31/1858 and it was admitted to probate 4/28/1862. It stated:

"In the name of the benevolent father of all good - I Robert Lisle of the County of Franklin and State of Ohio being of poor health but of sound mind and memory and understanding thanks be to Almight God for the same do make, publish and declare this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say -

1st, it is my will that my funeral expenses and all just debts be fully paid.

2nd, I give devise and bequeath to my loving wife Abigail all the farm on which we now reside that lies on the north side of the county road, and one horse and buggy and harness, one cow, and household and kitchen furniture that she may see fit to select.

3rd, I will unto my eldest son John Lisle my part of the farm that he and I bought in partnership of William Lisle provided he is to pay to his brother Samuel Lisle's heir Jeremiah lisle two hundred dollars when he shall have arrived at twenty one years of age.

4th, I will to my grandson Jeremiah Lisle the south part of my farm in Clinton Township, Franklin County commencing at a large white elm tree on the west bank of Whetstone near where the branch that comes throught the farm intersects the creek, running thence to a stone in the road at the east end of the fence, thence west to the middle of the west line of said farm, And the south half of a lot of land being west and adjoining Daniel Eakins land the land lot to be divided equal by running a line east and west.

5th I will to my son Eli McIntire Lisle the north part of both the last above described tracts of land.

6th, I will to my eldest daughter Elizabeth the money she received for which I hold the receipt.

7th, I will to my second daughter Rachel the east half of lot no 479 in the City of Columbus, Ohio. Also the money the said Rachel has received of me.

8th I will to William H McIntire the south east quarter of section 35 in township three south of range 3 East in the district of land subject to sale in Lima, Ohio.

9th, I will to my youngest son Harvey lisle the farm that I now live on subject to and encumbered by his mother's dower to have and to hold the same during his life then to go to his heirs.

10th, I will that the residue of my real estate and personal property be sold and converted into money and equally divided amongst my heirs, provided my wife Abigail is to receive one third of all money and notes at my decease, real estate not to be sold short of five years from my decease.

Lastly, I hereby constitute and appoint my eldest son John to be my executor of this my Last Will and Testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and ratifying and confirming this and no ohter to be my last will and testament. Whereunto I have set my hand and seal this 31st day of March, 1858."

He signed and sealed it.

Abigail McIntyre was born on 27 Jul 1789 in PA/OH. She died on 17 Apr 1862 in Hamilton, OH. She was buried in Walnut Hill Cem, Hamilton Twp, Franklin Co, OH. She married Robert Irwin LISLE on 27 Apr 1810 in Fairfield Co, OH, by Rev John Wright of UN Gospel.

One census said both she and Robert were born in PA, a later one said she was born in OH.

1840 Vermillion Co, IN, was the last IN census that Luther appeared in.

That was their address when Elizabeth sent a receipt for her share of her parents' estates.

Elizabeth LISLE [Parents] was born in 1793 in KY. She died in 1870 in Vermillion Co, IN. She married Luther Powers on 31 Jan 1811 in Columbus, Franklin Co, OH, by Dr James Hoge, Presbyterian Min.

Her father bequeathed $400 to her in his will and she got another $11.25 from her mother's estate.

She was among the charter members of the Protestant Episcopal society of Franklin Co, OH.

They had the following children:

He, too, was never counted by the census taker in IN past 1850.

She was last found in IN in 1860.
  M x Hannah Powers was born in 1835. He died in 1903.
  F xi Nancy Powers was born in 1837. She died on 5 Aug 1871.

James LISLE [Parents] was born on 31 Mar 1788 in PA. He died on 4 Jan 1845 in Obetz, Franklin Co, OH. He was buried in Lutheran Cem, Obetz, Franklin Co, OH. He married Mary Gulliford on 24 Dec 1814 in Hamilton Twp, Franklin Co, OH, by Geo. Bogart, JP. James resided.

Apparently he could not write as he signed various documents with a mark.

He was a veteran of the war of 1812, serving as Private of 2nd Div, 4th Brigade. Both he and Mary were said to be faithful members of the Lutheran Church.

His birth date is 3/6/1788 in some family listings but from calculations on the gravestone, it was as posted.

According to a county history, he drowned while crossing a river during the winter. He died without a will and real estate passed by statue of descent to children Robert, William, John G, Alexander and Abigail Moore subject to dower interest of Mary, his widow. William bought out the interests of Robert and John so the family farm was divided thus:

1/3 to widow Mary for her dower
1/5 to Michael Moore and Abbie
3/5 to William
1/5 to Alexander for whom William was appointed guardian.

Later William ended up with the whole farm when he also bought out the Moores and Alexander.

He lived there nearly all his life.

Mary Gulliford was born in 1790 in PA. She died in 1860. She was buried in Union Cem, Franklin Co, OH. She married James LISLE on 24 Dec 1814 in Hamilton Twp, Franklin Co, OH, by Geo. Bogart, JP.

She was appointed guardian of son, Alexander, upon her husband's death.

She was a member of the M E Church.

She was 70 years old in the 1860 census.

Wonder why she and James were not buried in the same cemetery?

Joseph Young was born in 1783. He married Rebecca LISLE on 19 Oct 1819 in Franklin Co, OH, by Wm Long. Joseph resided.

Rebecca LISLE [Parents] was born in 1801 in Clinton Twp, Franklin Co, OH. She died in 1823/1824 in Fairfield Co, OH, probably. She married Joseph Young on 19 Oct 1819 in Franklin Co, OH, by Wm Long.

Her father bequeathed $400 to her.

She sent a receipt for her share of her father's estate in 1823 but her husband inherited her portion of her mother's estate in 1824. However, her last child was born in 1834.

They had the following children:

IN Shortly after his marriage to Thankful, they followed the westward movement.

Some family listings say he died in IN but there are court records in OH dated 1850 concerning his estate.
