Her cousins, Frank and Leoma Powell, celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary in her orange grove in Pasadena.

Llewellyn "Louis" Dexter SEASS [Parents] was born in 1874 in IL. He died after 1931. He married Hattie BRADFIELD.

Dewey was a foreman at the A.E. Staley Co, in Decatur, IL, and a
member of the Prairie Ave Baptist Church and the Staley Fellowship
Club.

The cause of his death was a self inflicted gunshot wound, the coroner
said he apparently had been despondent.

Funeral services were held at the Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in
Decatur at 1 PM on Tuesday. He was buried alongside his wife, Grace.
The whereabouts of his second wife are unknown.

Enola Grace POWELL [Parents] was born on 3 Jan 1894 in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. She died on 18 Apr 1953 in Decatur, Macon Co, IL. She was buried in Greenhill Cem, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. She married Dewey Turner DECKARD on 29 Oct 1927 in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL, by Rev W B Hopper.

The cause of her death was leukemia.

Grace's funeral was held at Prairie Ave Christian Church with Rev
Darrell F Joachim officiating.


Orville Wendell POWELL [Parents] was born on 24 Nov 1895 in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. He died on 31 Aug 1959 in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL, at home. He was buried on 2 Sep 1959 in Greenhill Cem, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. He married Frances Marie PIERCE on 23 May 1920 in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL, at the bride's home.

Moultrie Co, IL, near Sullivan. He lived most of his life in the same
vicinity.

1919 Orville enlisted in the US Army where he served for 2 years as a
clerk. The newspaper carried a photo of him with the following
caption: "Corporal Orville W. Powell of Camp Taylor, KY, arrived on
Saturday for a few hours visit with home folks. The officers of his
division secured the pass and paid the expenses for him as a token of
appreciation for the many favors he had done for them at camp. This
shows the esteem in which he is held by the officers. He hopes to get
a longer furlough in the near future."

1921 He began teaching and continued for 27 years, considered by many
to be one of the best teachers in the county. He passed his love for
teaching down to his daughter who followed in the family tradition.
He was always active in school affairs and headed the survey committee
which led to the consolidation of rural and city schools into the
Sullivan District.

1930-1949 He was listed among the teachers of Reedy School.

His obituary described him as a prominent Jonathan Creek farmer. He
was also a member of the County Public Welfare Comm, the American
Legion, and the Farm Bureau, as well as being an active member of the
Jonathan Creek Christian church were he was an honarary elder.

Orville had suffered from a heart condition for several years but
recovered from previous attacks following hospitalization.

The funeral was held at Jonathan Creek Christian Church, near
Sullivan, IL, with Rev Donald Ridgeway conducting. Pallbearers were
all relatives: cousins, Charles W and John Shuman, Denzel and Hubert
Powell, and Donald and Guy Bolin Jr.

Frances Marie PIERCE was born on 26 Sep 1897 in Moultrie Co, IL. She died in Mar 1985 in Decatur, Macon Co, IL, St Mary's Hospital. She was buried in Greenhill Cem, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. She married Orville Wendell POWELL on 23 May 1920 in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL, at the bride's home.

She was an accomplished pianist and violinist and was a school
teacher.

She was a member of the Jonathan Creek Christian Church and charter
member of the Moultrie Co Home Extension Assn.

Frances died of cancer.

Her funeral was held at McMullin Funeral Home in Sullivan, IL.

Ralph Clement POWELL [Parents] was born on 24 Mar 1898 in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. He died on 27 Sep 1994 in Decatur, Macon Co, IL, St Mary's Hospital. He was buried in Greenhill Cem, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. He married Louella BUTLER on 6 Oct 1945 in Oak Park, IL, Austin Blvd Christian Church by Rev Harold Lunger. The marriage ended in divorce.

1945 Forest Park, IL, was his residence immediately after his
marriage to Louella. He was an account for Western Electric Co in
Chicago for 35 years.

1953 N Riverside, IL

Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. Following retirement he returned to his
family, joined Jonathan Creek Christian Church which is located just
across the road from his house, and was active in several local
organizations, including the Moultrie Co, IL, Geneological Society,
Kiwanis Club, Farm Bureau, Illinois Rifle Assn, American Legion, and
Telephone Pioneers of America.

Ralph had been in a nursing home for quite some time before he died.
It was his second confinement there after suffering a stroke several
years earlier which left him in a dazed, confused, and sometimes
almost comitose, state. However, while in the nursing home, he was
accidentally bumped on the head, which instead of complicating the
illness, brought about a miraculous recovery. He returned home in
perfect health for his age.

Ralph's funeral was held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at the Reed Funeral Home of Sullivan, IL. Pallbearers were: nephews, Rick, Dale, and Greg Crawford; neighbors, Paul and John Shuman; and Dave Walker.

He was buried with military rites.

Louella BUTLER.Louella married Ralph Clement POWELL on 6 Oct 1945 in Oak Park, IL, Austin Blvd Christian Church by Rev Harold Lunger. The marriage ended in divorce.

Louella was a school teacher.
